CANTEEN ITEMS

Canteen is still selling items that have to be sent out by February 1, 2002. Is "baby powder" or "bath powder" to be sent out?

There has been a list of items no longer allowed posted. You have the choice of sending it out or throwing it away. Will get clarification on the powder.

***Per Nancy Yonker, Supt. I; baby powder is authorized, bath powder (Shower To Shower) is not.

SMOKE BREAKS

Sergeant on third shift not allowing enough time to get out for smoke break. We have to be waiting at the door and have only 2 minutes from the time called to get outside.

*Mr. Thomas will speak to the officers on this matter.

DORMTENDER PAY CUTS

Dormtender have had their pay cut. They were working on the incentive program and had worked up to the better pay slot, then it was cut with no notice.

This matter has been addressed at the dormtenders meeting 1/22/02. Jobs will go back the way they were as soon as possible.

MAIL

We are not being allowed to go to the mailboxes unless it is open movement on the third shift.

*This was checked into by Mr. Thomas. Per IOC from Shift Supervisor Mooneyham, there is too much movement in the rotunda areas and mail will be dropped during open movement only.

MICROWAVE PLATES

How often can the microwave plates be replaced?

If the plates are not burned bad, they will not be replaced. Everyone needs to stay with their food and make sure the microwave is off before they leave it.

FOOD VISIT

Since the visiting hours are changing, will food visits be changed?

Food visit will remain the same. Staff from your own housing unit will work the visit, so we can be accessible to any questions family may have.

PHONES

People from upstairs are using the downstairs phones and staying on them for long lengths of time. Can something be done about a time limit?

There is only one phone upstairs. There are not time limits set. First come, first served. Everyone needs to be courteous.

SIGN IN/OUT MONITORS

The monitors are being sent to look for offenders for officers.

This is not what the job was intended for. Looking for offenders is not the responsibility of the sign in monitor. The monitor is to remind offenders to sign in and out.

Do offenders with lay-ins have to work the desk?

      Yes.

COMMENTS FROM MR. THOMAS

PIN Numbers: Information on telephone PIN numbers has been posted upstairs, downstairs, and by each telephone. Please read carefully.

Out Of Bounds: If caught on another wing, another room, or on another housing unit, sanctions will be heavy. Everyone knows they are not to be anywhere they are not assigned.

Headphones: Make sure you use your headphones. There have been several complaints that offenders are not using them, or they have hem turned up so loud that other offenders can hear them. Keep the volume turned down. This is also for your own protection. You can damage your hearing if turned up for long periods of time.

Cleanliness: Please continue to clean up after yourself. Dormtenders are not personal maids. It is everyone's responsibility to keep the housing unit clean.

Moves: The institution is full. There will be no moves over petty stuff. We are all adults, and need to act like it.

    Cyndi Prudden, Assoc. Supt.
    Nancy Yonker, Asst. Supt.
